In order to understand how the lesson will impact the lives of the students, it is significant to first define the expected outcomes from the students then later measure if the implemented service or lesson was effective (University of Oregon, 2010). Since my lesson was to involve physical activities and instructions, I divided the objectives into two categories; language objectives and active participation objectives. This break down would help me be exhaustive and thorough as possible.
By the end of the lesson, the students would be in a position to clearly explain the meaning of interval workout. The students would also be able to practically show and participate in the various challenges that would exemplify what interval workout means. For the exceptional students in the physical activities, they would try to make the time lapse for the low intensity activities shorter and see if they could still cope with the new levels of stress. This would make the lesson more interesting and challenging in the next stage.
Information derived
The students were able to understand the meaning of interval workout more clearly from participating in the activity than from the theoretical description. Once the students picked on the various activities and recorded their heart rate, it came out clearer what interval workout meant to the students. The students were also able to decipher that the intensity of the workouts deferred with the activities hence there was no fixed definition of intensity of interval workout but variations according to the particular activity.
There was a common trend among the students on the intensity of the interval workouts, with the leading ones being sprints, boxing and jump rope. In the exit tickets submitted by the students, it was clear that these three activities ranking highest in the list as the most intense ones.
Future application of information derived
The information will help in the future teaching lessons, since I will know how to space out the activities such that no two high intensity activities will follow each other. This will help reduce tiredness and loss of interest in the lesson.
